Why the Technician exam feels harder than it is
Many study guides list the questions with their answers. That gets you through the exam, but not through your first time on the air.
Rules, electronics and radio waves arrive in the same week, without the few ideas that tie them together.
A new question pool started on July 1, 2026, so older guides and apps can be out of step with the exam.
After the exam, the first radio and antenna choice is a guess, and the first contact is the scariest part.
What the book will hold
Each chapter takes one part of the Technician pool, explains the idea behind its questions in plain words with a worked example, and ends with practice in the style of the exam. The last part is about the first month on the air: a handheld, a better antenna, a local repeater and the first contact.
- Every section of the Technician pool valid July 2026 to June 2030, explained
- The few formulas the exam uses (Ohm's law, power, wavelength), with worked examples
- Practice sections in the style of the exam after each chapter
- How the exam session works, from finding one to getting your callsign
- Your first handheld and antenna, without brand hype
- Your first repeater contact, step by step
- Format: paperback and ebook
